The Nar Valley Way is a 34 mile long trail that explores the catchment area of the River Nar in West Norfolk. Not only does the trail visit plenty of historical sites, including two castles and several religious centres, but it explores the natural beauty of the open farmland and countryside on the edge of the fens. Setting out from Kings Lynn the opening 14 miles is almost entirely along the riverbank, with numerous chances to glance over the water and potentially see the blue flash of a kingfisher or the secretive otter. As you progress further upriver the trail changes in character as the historic villages of Castle Acre and Mileham are visited with chances to really explore the medieval history of Norfolk. The route can be completed over 2 days, 3 days or even longer with the recommendation of a whole day dedicated to exploring the medieval village of Castle Acre alone!
