Stour Valley Path (Clare to Long Melford)

Fancy exploring the Stour Valley Path but not sure of the way? Then come with me and we’ll explore part of this waymarked trail together as we set out from Clare to explore some of the best parts of the trail.

After meeting in Long Melford and catching the bus to Clare, we head into the stunning Country Park with its impressive castle remains on the top of an enormous Motte. From here we head out of the Country Park and into the surrounding countryside, crossing fields and country lanes into the stunning village of Cavendish with its iconic pink cottages in front of the parish church. Heading out of Cavendish we gain a little height as we overlook the Stour Valley from the approach to Glemsford and beyond, views to the village of Stanstead. The walk ends in the historic village of Long Melford, with its many listed buildings and two stately homes, it’s the perfect place to enjoy at the end of a days walk.

Distance: 16km (10 Miles)
Duration: 5 - 6 Hours

Free Car Park in Long Melford.

Meeting Point: By the Village Sign close to the Bull Hotel, Long Melford.

Additional Notes: There is a small village shop in Cavendish and Glemsford if supplies are needed along the walk. Several shops in Long Melford located at the beginning of the walk is the best place to purchase food and drink.

We will likely stop for a packed lunch break somewhere around Glemsford.
