Mountaineering on Cadair Idris

Distance: 8.9km (5.53 Miles)
Ascent: 782m (2566ft)
Duration: 8 Hours

Having met up with friends, initially to do the Welsh 3000s but decided not to due to weather we decided on a mountaineering day on Cadair Idris and as this is a mountain high on my list to climb it was well worth it!

From the car park there are immediate views to Cadair Idris North Face, a craggy wilderness.

Stunning mountain scenery that I have never seen before.

Y Garn (not the Snowdon One) is the pointed peak to the right at 629m asl.

Heading up to Llyn y Gadair where we branch off to the cliff face.

Our first of the multi-pitches - Table Direct and it was a stunning climb.

This was taken from the top of Table Direct. To see some of the climbing take a look at the video with some Epic Drone Shots! That’s Llyn Y Gadair down there.

Cadair Idris and Llyn y Gadair.

A great shot showing Tim sunbathing on a shelf. He solo’d the route whilst me and Megan alternated leads.

Spic mountain scenery.

Standing by the summit of Cyfrwy after completing the Cyfwry Arete.

Cyfwry Summit at 811m asl.

Barmouth Bridge down by the sea.

Time to head over to the summit of Cadair Idris.

The summit trig on Cadair Idris.

There was a small shelter up here too for protection from the elements.

Looking across to Mynydd Moel at 863m asl.

Time to start the descent with a final view to the south west.

Close to the valley floor and enjoying the sunshine. It actually got a bit too hot and we ended up dipping in the river near the bottom to cool off! It was about 20C or more.
